Zune can kill iPods

I have had a Microsoft Zune for just under a year now, and I am pretty satisfied with it. I have gotten all the updates when they came out, and was glad when they came out with the latest 2.5 firmware update. This update includes the ability to purchase TV shows from a hand full of networks. That wont kill an iPod as Apple already has TV shows and Movies for rent/purchase. Something Apple and their iPods don’t have is a subscription option.

Microsoft’s Zune Pass is currently $14.99US/month and includes access to their entire music library for the month. Whats better is with Zune Social, you can subscribe to your friend’s cards (assuming you have friends) and download what they favorite. Now Microsoft is getting somewhere. Tie the TV shows with a Zune Pass, and now you have an iPod, and a cable/satellite killer. But Microsoft hasn’t done that yet. For $180US a year, you can get your favorite shows delivered to you via the Internets and you can watch them on your time. Never have to worry about whether an album is good or not, just download it. The current price point of $14.99 is pretty steep, but if the TV shows were included, I think it would be a phenomenal deal. According to this Wired article Microsoft has plans to either lower the price or adding more content. When (not if) Microsoft adds movies to their catalog, and they add movies to the Zune Pass, Microsoft could take on Net Filx and other movie distributes.

Rock Band’s drum kit sucks. There’s no way around it. I learned this the hard way when I was playing Welcome Home on expert. I was almost done with the song and the bass kicker pedal snapped in half. Quickly I did a Google search on the Internets and found that quite a few people have had this “problem”. On eBay, I found a company called Mega Pedal who sell metal pedals for your Rock Band Drum kit. Intrigued I saw they had 3 different versions. Two are metal pieces that screw on to the plastic petal, and one that was a full chunk of metal. I ordered the full metal one and they shipped it the same day they got the order.

It arrived about three days later and I popped off the plastic, and installed the metal Mega Pedal. Installation was a breeze. I was a bit nervous when I picked a song for the first time, and was amazed with the difference. I was able to hit more notes than with the plastic and I no longer worry about it breaking.

Drums have become much easier since I got my “Mega Pedal”. I suggest anyone who broke their pedal or is serious about drums (or both) to pick it up. Search for it on eBay.

G4TV’s Kevin From Rock Band to Rock Star

I have heard that playing Rock Band’s drum kit on expert was similar if not identical to a real drum kit. I have also heard the opposite. Kevin from G4TV gets a chance to play with Coheed and Cambria.

So I have been playing too much Rock Band lately. I have finally beaten the guitar solo on expert and the vocal on hard. I never tried to beat them, just got around to it. Not much has been going on in PC gaming. Call of Duty 4 still isn’t my cup of tea, but Nexus is still plowing through just about all teams they face. Frontlines, don’t get me started, but lets just say I can’t wait for 10 patches from now…
